Happy Teacher Tuesday!
Today I'm going to use Andrea's image and talk about a fun project we are doing in first grade land this week.
This week in first grade we are learning all about President's Day.
Here is a little glimpse into our week:
Monday: Flipbook introducing the importance of the holiday and the two presidents featured, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Find that book here. I did this today and my kiddos LOVED it! We also made these anchor charts and started adding a few facts about each president that we will add to throughout the week. Finally I made this huge Abraham Lincoln and we measured ourselves compared to Abe to see how tall we are.
Side note: The kids freaked out when they came back from specials and saw this guy there. They were so excited to come up and see where they were compared to this guy. I loved their little faces when they were measuring themselves. I highly recommend this project. It's pretty easy to make too! My trick? Trace it on the Smartboard if your not very artistic like me!
Tuesday: Dive more into Abraham Lincoln using this mini book. This has basic facts in it for each president. Add more facts on the anchor charts then start using graphic organizers to organize all the facts! Find those here.
Wednesday: Do the same thing as Tuesday, just with George Washington instead.
Thursday: Compare the two using this Venn Diagram. Then have the kiddos start their final reports about one of the presidents. They can only pick one and I have a feeling this may be an issue. They are loving this unit and we are only one day in!
Friday: Finish final draft and share day :)
My kids love history more than anything and I tried to make this week fun for them! I can't wait for writing and social studies each day.
